Dr. Alan Hirsch
is the Founder of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation
in Chicago,
and I have had the pleasure of attending one of his lectures. His studies
have shown that people who have lost their sense of smell tend to gain
weight.
In
another study, more than 3,000 overweight people were given inhalers to
smell whenever they got hungry. Those who had a good sense of smell lost
an average of five pounds per month for six months. He theorizes that
scents may trick the part of the brain that makes us feel full.
Peppermint was one of the oils used in the study. Dr. Hirsch advises
choosing the aromas you like most.
Makes sense/scents
to me. Some researchers are saying 80% to 90% of taste is smell, and
there is no doubt that aroma changes our thought, memory, and emotional
state. So why not sniff-away when you get hungry and see what happens. It
won't do any harm. The side effects are a more enjoyable day.

Our GMT customer who spent a month in Africa
shared her adventures with us.
"The
Good Medicine Tin® made my trip far more enjoyable because no matter what
went wrong, I had a remedy that smelled really good. By the time I was
leaving, I was misting everyone on my safari tour bus. Now I am heading
to New Zealand
with my family, so we have to get refills. Thank you so much!"

Holiday Peace
|
|

|
|
The Holiday season is a maze of complexity with
commitments, finances, emotions and time pressures. This drains the
immune system, taxing emotional and physical health. How do we walk the
Labyrinth of Peace through the Jungle of Chaos? The call is to put
together your package of Good Medicine to bless you and protect you.
Commit to focusing on what's important: the spirit of the season. It's
not easy, but it is possible. Grandmother Tree told Pocahontas: The right
path is not always the easiest path.
Essential oils are BIG players in
emotional health because of aroma, and physical health because of natural
chemistry. Keep a mist with you and take "Mist Breaks" often to
mist away stress, shift and refocus. Make BIG circular clouds around the
head and closely mist back of neck. This helps keep you physically
healthy too.
Carry a bottle of your favorite
essential oil to use as an inhaler. Close your eyes and take 5 to 7 deep
breaths. Lavender, Peppermint, Orange,
and our Precious Christmas Oil are great choices. Put some on a cotton
ball for a friend. Use your favorite blend in the bath or after a shower.
At bedtime, use Lavender Mist to calm down the wild monkeys swinging from
tree to tree in your mind. Put a drop of Lavender on your pillow, and do
a massage with a calming blend like our Natural Tranquilizer or OLA #3.
Other Bearers of Peace? Move the body,
take a quiet moment, affirm positive thoughts, get a good night's sleep,
moderate your sugar intake, hug a friend and tell your loved ones that
you love them. Tell yourself too.
