Candace's Corner of The World

One of the bits of wisdom I continue to learn about essential oils is how they work through osmosis. What you do for yourself, is then done for those around you. Aromas know no limits and boundaries...and will not be contained. Smelling aromas to soothe your stress, can also soothe the one next to you.

Traveling on airplanes is a continual experience of this. Most of you know this is how I met my husband, John. With my mother sitting between us, we could not keep the aromas of Lavender and Peppermint from affecting his nose-brain connection! This was his first introduction to essential oils. Another time, the man sitting next to me asked about the wonderful smell I was using...because he did not like perfumes. This experience changed his whole demeanor. He said he was going home to support his wife, a nurse who wanted to study Aromatherapy which he had not supported until now.

One of my favorite stories is a customer who goes to sleep at night with Lavender Mist and some straight Lavender on her pillow. This calms the central nervous system and helps turn off the chatter of the day. She told me her anxious dog sleeps on the rug next to her bed, and she noticed he calmed down too! After a few night, the dog ran to his rug at bedtime for his Lavender Misting.

So soothing yourself this season, is also soothing those around you. Essential oils know all about the Golden Rule. Genuine giving and receiving are one. John and I wish you Holidays ... blessed with aromas of joy and peace ... as you do unto others.

What's On YOUR Mind?

Speaking of thoughts, memories, and emotions...reminds me of a lady in Naples, Florida who came into our studio/shop one day to tell us that she finally can feel Christmas in Florida. A friend gave her our Precious Christmas Oil. The moment she smelled it...the warm memories of Christmas came back. Each day, she put some on a cotton ball for her pocket.

Precious Christmas Oil is our 14 year formula of Pine, Cinnamon, Clove and Orange. A couple drops in a pan of warm water on the stove is lovely....or in a diffuser. It is one of our seven specials this month. The oils happen to be antibacterial and antiviral...a good side effect for keeping us healthy. Happy warm memories keep us healthy too. What synergy!

Essential Oils & The Holidays

Last month we talked about the two main attributes of Aromatherapy: (1) their instant ability to relieve stress, and (2) their support for a healthy immune system. Sometimes more than others we really can use this help. The Holidays are the most powerful time to conjure up memories, thoughts, and emotions of all kinds. Also, our health is challenged due to the opportunity to indulge in the goodies, overextend our time commitments, and be around lots of people

Essential oils are a language of thought, memory, and emotion. Words cannot take us where aromas go. This is profoundly clear to me from my work at Hospice, to the top of the Andes mountains with the Incas. Pure aromas initiate the nose-brain connection. This instantaneously changes our brain chemistry, creating feelings of less stress and more peace.

Essential oils are the perfect partner for the holidays. Their aromas were made to celebrate the joy of the season and assist us through the transitions of the New Year. All the while, their medicinal properties are protecting our physical health.

Choose to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and the Holidays. Select your favorite aromas and be aware of how they celebrate who you are. Some good choices are: Lavender, Orange, Geranium, Rose, Sandalwood, Frankincense and Myrrh.

Mist yourself often ... just for the joy of it. Put a couple drops of your favorite oil on a cotton ball and keep it in your pocket. Use a blend for enjoying each shower and bath. Tuck yourself in bed at night with a drop of Lavender on your pillow. Sweet Dreams ... visions of sugar plums ... and all things sweet and lovely.
