After 33 years at sea level in Florida, it is quite the
change to be at 7,000 elevation in 3-4 feet of snow (with more
promised to come), up a long inclined driveway in the forest,
with no cell service. So ... it gets cold. My hat stays on
most the days and nights, inside and outside the house, and
the warming oils are receiving a whole new sense of respect
from us.
Nighttime. Nothing like being warm and cozy for a
good night's sleep. One of the routines I do at least 1-2
nights a week is to put some Ear/Nose/Throat Oil on a piece of
cotton ball and put this in my ear. It helps my left sinuses
and head, and always seems to help if I'm having trouble going
to sleep. The formula with Tea Tree, Thyme, and Clove are some
of the most warming oils, and the Lavender and Chamomile are
comforting and soothing. This is one of our best formulas,
helping many people. John and I both had quite a virus over
the holidays, so after I used Ear/Nose/Throat Oil for what it
was formulated for ... I then rubbed it into the soles of my
feet ... put on some nice warm socks and went to sleep.
Keeping the feet toasty and comfortable promotes a good
night's sleep.
Daytime. One of my favorite things in the morning is
to rub Deep Rub Gel into my neck and low back. Since shoveling
snow is now part of our daily routine, I often repeat this
treatment during the day. The Deep Rub Gel formula has the
ache-relieving warming oils of Peppermint, Rosemary, Camphor,
Wintergreen and Oregano in it. This can also be rubbed into
the soles of the feet for a special treat. One client in
Massachusetts does this nightly for her aching feet and legs
... and it helps with sleep too.
When I'm really feeling compromised with colds and flu, I
put 2-3 drops of pure Eucalyptus oil on the soles of my feet
at night with socks, and on a tissue with socks and shoes for
the daytime. English Aromatherapy is big on this ... and so am
I.
So choose some blends and pure essential oils that are
right for you and let your feet know how nice life can be with
Aromatherapy!

| What's On YOUR Mind? |

The feet are reported to be the most overused and
underappreciated part of the body. They are also among the
most complex with 52 bones, 38 muscles, more that 200
ligaments, and thousands of nerve endings.
Massaging the feet is a great way to balance the autonomic
nervous system, increase circulation, promote relaxation, and
help regulate digestion and sleep. Using essential oils makes
the massage more effective.
According to Schering-Plough Healthcare Products: 80% of
adults will suffer from some type of foot ailment at some
point.
Some oils to get you started: (1) for sleep: use Lavender,
(2) for digestion: Peppermint, (3) immune boost: Eucalyptus or
Tea Tree, (4) circulation: Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Rosemary or
Lemon, (5) happy feet: the aroma you love. Mix 1-2 drops of
any of the above in a palm-full of Jojoba and massage away the
pain and stress.
My "thank you" to a lovely New Jersey customer who called
in an order this week and said: "Have a wonderful New Year.
You're doing good work for everyone." A nice thought to start
the year off right. Thank you!

The Soles of Our Feet |
|
|
|
One of the most meaningful things I learned in massage
school in the early 1990's was that the soles of our feet are
a highly absorptive part of the body. Then in 1992, I learned
from Micheline Arcier in London that putting essential oils on
the soles of our feet is one of the best treatments for
Aromatherapy.
The Chinese refer to this gentle soft sensitive spot in the
middle of the bottom of our feet as "the bubbling
well". Perhaps our soul is connected to our soles in may
ways. It is a tender spot that endures in babies and the
elderly. I see this as a sacred receptive well for
essential oils.
We ask a great deal from our feet, as we tromp, dance,
skip, pedal and stomp on them throughout our life. When we say
jump ... they jump! They deserve some comfort and care. If we
take care of them, they'll take care of us. Touch With Oil® is
the answer.
Massaging our feet with essential oils is an exquisite way
to give our precious feet a reward for all they do for us.
There are reflex points on our feet for all parts of our body.
For example, massaging our toes works on our head and sinuses.
The soles of our feet are the center of our body, where all
our vital organs are.
What to do? (1) For foot massage: use a blend of essential
oils in base oil and thoroughly massage your feet, with
special attention to the SOLES OF YOUR FEET. Our OLA Five
Massage Blend (Eucalyptus, Peppermint and others) and OLA Six
(Rosemary, Sage, Lemon and others) are two excellent choices
for increasing circulation and boosting the immune system in
this winter time of the year. Put on some soft comfortable
socks and feel your happy feet. (2) Put 1-2 drops of a
straight pure essential oil on the soles of your feet, for a
quick dose of aromatic essential oil medicine. Put on socks.
Use Lavender to relax, de-stress, or at night at bedside for a
good night's sleep. Use Eucalyptus if you are sick or feel
compromised. (3) In the daytime, put 1-2 drops of pure
essential oil on a piece of Kleenex, then socks and shoes for
the day. This is a great way to keep you healthy and lift your
spirits. Peppermint and Eucalyptus are good choices.
High-grade pure essential oils are naturally antibacterial
and many are also antiviral, therefore they give us a way to
stay healthy on a daily basis. Their aroma is one of the best
stress relievers.
Keep some oils by your chair when watching TV and this
massage becomes part of a simple and easy nightly routine.
It's happened to me and I love this. Find a way to TREAT YOUR
FEET with aromatic medicine and joy ... and remember: Be
gentle with yourself ... life is precious.
