This Month's Spotlight Is On...

Add Lemon (one drop per ounce for starters) to one of your Lavender Mists to have a clean and refreshing mist. It is cooling and uplifting. We have one on our kitchen counter and it feels great on my face when I come in from outdoors. Yes, it is hot in Colorado.

We have Lemon in our OLA Five and Six. These blends are good for improving circulation, soothing aches and pains, and supporting a healthy immune system.

Candace's Corner of The World

It is a big and small world. At each Expo or Show we have been to, we have seen at least one of you. How amazing and wonderful. It is so rewarding for us to hear your stories about how you enjoy having the oils in your lives and what they have done for you.

The Pagosa Springs Annual July 4th Arts Festival went on for 5 days and it was plenty hot. John and I took turns taking puppy Muga to the river, so we could all get our feet in the mountain cold water. We learned another power of misting. The ability and choice to constantly mist ourselves was a saving grace, and all those who chose to be misted were also visibly refreshed. Lavender-Peppermint Mist with its cooling menthol effect on the back of the neck was best. We also kept several mists in the cooler. Take them on summer picnics.

Wonder who we will see in Cincinnati, Ohio in September. We'll have more on our Booth at the American Massage Therapy Association in our next issue.

Have a blessed summer in all ways, choose thoughts and actions that make your heart smile and your spirit soar. Choose delicious things from the buffet table of health for your Whole Self. Life is short....and oh so precious.

What's on YOUR mind?

There are always questions about the toxicity of essential oils. Most of the studies are referring to the internal use and the use of straight oils on the skin. The International Federation of Aromatherapy and The International Federation of Professional Aromatherapy (both of which I am a member) do not endorse the use of treatments using straight essential oils directly on the skin. Many can cause dermal irritations and sensitive reactions, including headaches and dizziness. Essential oils are highly concentrated voltile liquids. They are lipid, not water, soluable. So when they come in contact with the skin, they instantaneously merge with the oils in the skin and cannot be washed off. If the aromas are also too strong, they stick to the mucos membranes in your nose. This is why we can't get a perfume that we don't care for, out of our head.

When wishing to apply a dab of a straight oil on your skin as a perfume, do a skin test first. Citrus and mint oils can be very irritating. Always combine them in a base oil, gel, or lotion. Lemon is one of these, and is also phototoxic (sensitive on skin in the sun).

Lovely Lemon

Lemon, Citrus limonum, is included in my top ten essential oils. Most of us love the aroma of lemon because it is clean, refreshing, cooling and uplifting. The essential oil is highly antiseptic and has antiviral activity.

Dr. Jean Valnet in his book The Practice of Aromatherapy, states Lemon is antirheumatic, antigout, and anti-arthritic; works like a venous tonic, combats fever, and is a tonic for the nervous system. Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt reports that Lemon aids in liver regeneration and detoxification. Micheline Arcier's work adds that Lemon is good for hands, nails, many skin conditions, and can aid in slimming down.

Lemon is stimulating and acts as an astringent. It is in our Clear Skin Gel formula for oily skin, acne, hands, feet, nail care, and rashes. It has helped many people with shingles. It is in OLA Five for leg circulation, aches and pains, colds and flu. In OLA Six, Lemon helps with arthritic discomfort, general aches and pains, and supports a healthy immune system.

It's important to purchase Lemon essential oil that is not grown with pesticides. Ours is from Spain and is pesticide free.

Enjoy the aroma of Lemon when you want clarity and invigoration. Breathe deeply and receive all the medicine and messages that it has for you. Lemon clears the streams and moves the rivers.
