When September 11 happened, many of my colleagues
around the country set up an Aromatherapy Relief
Team of aromatherapists and massage therapists that
went to New York City to set up relief stations for
firefighters and police. We sent mists and oils to support
their good work. The results were astounding. Out of this
project came the United Aromatherapy Effort
(UAE) with aromatherapists from United States,
England, Australia and other areas. You can see their website
at www.unitedaromatherapy.org. You are
welcome to be a part of this.
Sylla Sheppard-Hanger, DougE, and others, have a relief
station set up in Shreveport, Louisiana. John and I have sent
mists and oils again to support their good work. When
all else is gone, and things and words just don't do it, touch
and aromas can be that language of no words that touches the
heart and restores the soul.

| What's On Your Mind? |
 |
| Alertness when driving in the car, or
concentrating with work and studies is important. When leaving
at 5:30am to drive to Sarasota for school, I would get drowsy.
Of course I was also attempting to study at the same time. A
bottle of pure Peppermint was my aid. Straight to the nose for
deep breathing is a great menthol wake up call to the head.
Don't get in the car without it. It doubles as a motion
sickness remedy too.
Peppermint was also my father's choice in
his beginning years of Alzheimer's. He kept the bottle in his
pocket and I would often see him taking some big whiffs. It
was a security item for him. The comfort was reassuring to my
mother and me as well.

| Alertness and Aromas |
 |
| "As concentration and attention increase, the
mind becomes clear and balanced." Who among us would
not like to be more focused, as Jack Kornfield describes? Our
ability to concentrate and be clearer is in high demand, in
the midst of lives overwhelmed with complexity which often
leads to confusion and fatigue.
Due to the physiology of the olfactory
system, molecules of aroma connect into the olfactory
neurons and fire into the brain. According to Dr. Deepak
Chopra, our brain chemistry changes in less that a second with
this sensory input. This makes pure essential oils one of the
most pleasing ways to increase alertness. Our
nose-brain connection gives aroma a direct way to wake up the
mind. Be sure to use high grade pure essential oils.
Your brain deserves only the best.
Rosemary has a history of use as a memory
aid dating back to ancient Greece. We also have good results
with Peppermint's menthol lift;
Eucalyptus's mucolytic and expectorant
stimulating properties; and Lemon's fresh and
clearing effects. Steps to follow: (1) Carry
around a bottle of pure essential oil and take at least 5-7
deep breaths as needed. (2) Put pure
essential oil on a cotton ball, in a room or small personal
diffuser. This is good on your desk or in the car. (3)
Pour some base oil in your palm and add about 3 drops
of essential oil. Apply to nose, rub hands together, cup nose
and breathe deeply with eyes closed. Then rub temples and back
of neck.
Choose a single oil or if you prefer a combination, try our
OLA # 5 or #6. They are both stimulating
blends that come blended in Organic Golden Jojoba, or in their
pure essential oil combination. The word
"aroma" is of Greek origin referring to
sweet scents to the brain. Choose the oil
most pleasing to you. Breathe deeply and be grateful for your
precious brain. |
