Frankincense (Boswellia carteri from Somalia) is extracted from the resin of the tree. “Franc” is from medieval French meaning “free, pure, abundant” and “incensum” is Latin for “to kindle”. These are good words for transitions. It was traditionally used to fumigate homes, in religious ceremony as holy incense, and in perfumes and cosmetics for skin care. Medicinally, the liquid is an antiseptic, anti- inflammatory expectorant. It is good for any stress- related conditions. Use it to soothe, restore, and revitalize.

Receive a 10% savings on the 10 ml and 4 ml size. The 4 ml is perfect to keep in your pocket as an inhaler.

As you know, we will be closing the shop in Naples on April 15th. Be sure to get your oils you will need for a couple of months while we relocate to our home in Colorado. We will reopen the business on June 15th for mail orders by web, fax, or phone. Our toll free number comes with us, so keep it with you. What an adventure!

I will be teaching my last Touch With Oils™ Hand Massage Class in the shop on Monday February 13th from 6:30 to 8:30pm. We’ll go over how to open up the energy in your hands and work on your own hands. Then you will watch, give, and receive my Touch With Oils™ Hand Massage. What a gift to give to others. It reminds us how giving and receiving are truly one. A payment of $30.00 per person reserves your spot. Class of 12.

How to use Frankincense for transitions?

    (1) Keep a little bottle with you for inhalations. Close eyes and take 5 to 7 deep breaths. FEEL it go through your brain, lungs, and system establishing peace and balance in your transition. How wonderful to be protecting your health naturally, at the same time. (2) Put some in a diffuser for the room, or on a cotton ball for you pocket. (3) Put a drop in the center of you palm, rub hands together vigorously, cup you nose with close eyes and breathe deeply. (4) Do #3 before prayer, meditation, or exercise such as walking. (5) While doing any of the above, connect your new thoughts and emotions with the aroma and action you are taking. (6) Add 3-4 drops to bath water. Rest in the warm water and quiet time you have created. Think and FEEL a deep peace, and re-establish your desired thoughts. (7) Mix Frankincense in Organic golden Jojoba to apply to skin. Apply to nose, temples, back of neck, and heart. Palms of hands and soles of feet are powerful spots too.

    Frankincense For Transitions

Transitions involve going through something: a passage from one place to another. Life is about transitions. Physical or nonphysical, we are moving from our comfort zone into an unknown. We don’t always like this because it’s an adjustment of sorts. So when we’re faced with transitions we choose to bring on ourselves (like New Year’s resolutions) or those that life tosses us (like the loss of a loved one or a physical challenge), we need all the help from the soulful elements of life we can muster up. Some of these are: pure aromas, prayer and meditation, activity and rest that we enjoy, being with family and friends we love, music and movement of the body, good foods, you take it from here.

One of the roles essential oils have played since the beginning of their relationship with human beings is assisting and comforting through transitions. The unconscious response of the aroma’s nose-brain connection means we don’t have to “think “ our way through it. As the whiff of comfort comes in, the brain chemistry changes as an autonomic nervous system response. No effort required. What a relief!

Frankincense is an ancient medicine of Egypt, India, and China. It was used in times of plague to ward off disease. It is also used to strengthen, protect and purify the body and soul, clear the head, and deepen the breath. My most prized teacher, Micheline Arcier of London, carried it with her on travels. Me too. Transitions are travels, whether we leave home or not, we are going somewhere new. My first bottle of Frankincense came from her in 1992 and I still have it.

Remember, aroma is a language of thought, memory and emotion. If Frankincense conjures up unpleasant feelings for you, then try another precious oil like Rose, Jasmine,or Ylang Ylang. You can always soften the Frankincense with a touch of Lavender, Orange or Rose. Read “What’s On YOUR Mind” for ideas on how to use your transitional oil.
