Caregiver's
Tools: A mist, a pure essential oil, a blend, and the Touch With Oils®
Hand Massage Video.
1. Keep
a mist with you all the time. It eases anxiety and "washes
away" the heavy, stressful feelings. Choose the mist you enjoy the
most: Lavender, Rose-Lavender, or Lavender- Peppermint.
2. Use
a little bottle of pure essential oil for deep breathing. Put some in a
room diffuser, a few drops on a cotton ball, or a drop on the pillow.
Lavender is the first choice. Peppermint and Orange are also good.
3.
Apply the blend to your/their nose, temples, and back of neck. Then
"give care" with a gentle, slow hand massage. Allow this to be
a quiet time. Our OLA™ #4 Custom Blend with Rose otto and Lavender is
about peace, balance, the heart and love. I used this blend at Hospice
for years.

Q&A: We're glad you asked!
|
|

|
|
When someone has
lost their sense of smell, can essential oils still help?
Yes.
The misting is refreshing on the skin. The inhalations of the pure oils
can create a sensation as the odor molecules travel up the nose (try Peppermint).
The blend applied with pure intention, speaks to the soul.

This Month's OLA™ Storyteller: More Good News!

My 82 year old
grandmother had a stroke in May of 1999, paralizing her left side. While
visiting her in the nursing home, I had her smell the OLA™ #4
Rose-Lavender Blend. It reminded her of the "freshness in
summer." She was very receptive to the oils and loved the massage I
gave her temples and forehead. Then came the suggestion I bring the other
residents in and have them experience this.
She was
very ticklish on her right foot, and when I started massaging her left
foot something amazing happened. Her whole leg moved. When I continued
the massage, her foot and leg continued to jump. The rehabilitation
therapy she was initially given was ceased because they said she would
never regain feeling on her left side. I was astonished to say the least.
The
Touch With Oils® routine you teach is very nurturing to the recipient and
the giver as well. I learned the oils help us physically, and also have a
way of speaking to our soul and touching the spirit within. Thank you for
being such an inspiration.

Aromatherapy for Caregivers
|
|

|
|
Whether we are
"giving care" to ourselves or a dear loved one, we are all
caregivers in one form or another. This of course changes over time.
Sometimes it can be so overwhelming, we end up in the hospital ourselves.
Then we are no help to anyone and need someone to take care of us. This
is what happened to me with my father's Alzheimer's and my mother's and
my sadness and pain. Nothing like learning the hard way, the simple
truth: "First to thine own self be true."
We can only give away what we have.
Taking time to care for ourselves is not selfish. It shows wisdom,
integrity, and caring. The better we take care of ourselves, the less
likely we are to be a burden to others. It is like putting on the oxygen
mask first on the airplane, so we are still around to help others.
Essential oils are one of the easiest
and least expensive tools for caregivers. They are also one of the most
comforting in these difficult times. After years of teaching the Touch
With Oils® Hand Massage with our Lavender Mist and our OLA™#4
Rose-Lavender Custom Blend, I still kneel in awe at the miracle of
compassion that the giver and receiver experience together. The pure
aroma soothes the emotional pain of the squeezed-heart feeling, and the gentle
touch relaxes stressed tissue. Touch With Oils® is "giving
care" in a loving way.
Whether it is time to nurture yourself
or another, read "What Can I Do". It all starts with you.
