Happy
Valentine's Day!
Welcome
to the second issue of Oil Lady Messenger! It is wonderful to finally be
able to reach out to our Oil Lady people all over the world. In response to
last month's issue, we received an email from an on line reader that said,
"my computer has finally turned into a fragrant rose." That was
all I needed to hear to encourage me to improve my computer skills so that
I can continue to bring you the Oil Lady Messenger every month.
Our
message this month is about how we all have a common desire to feel better
in some way. Essential oils instinctively know how to help us feel better.
So...take an aromatic silent moment and remember the things in life that
make you feel happy. Each day, make a conscious decision to bring one of
these things into your life. What we do daily is what goes the distance.
When I was climbing the huge mountain above Macchu Picchu, it was one step
and three breaths at a time that got me to the top (and one faint). Moving
and breathing is important. Essential oils travel on the breath, and remind
us to breathe deeply. This is part of the natural relaxation effect of
essential oils.

What Can I Do?

There are many
simple ways to use essential oils to feel better. The easiest? Use our
OLA™ Lavender Mist...all day long.
1. Keep
a little bottle of pure essential oil with you as an inhaler. Our little
4-ml. bottle of Lavender is the perfect size. Put a few drops on a cotton
ball to keep with you. Set up a room diffuser in your home or office to
put sweet scents in the air.
2. Rub
a little bit of one of our OLA™ Custom Blends on your nose, temples, and
neck. Breathe deeply. You can also make a "palm blend" in your
hand with Jojoba and one drop of Lavender.
3. Keep
our new and smaller version of The Good Medicine Tin® with you to get all
the benefits of misting, inhaling, and making "palm blends."
Use the lid as a convenient tray for the oils on your desk or dresser.

Q&A: We're glad you asked!

Can I take
essential oils internally?
Essential
oils should only be taken internally under the supervision of a doctor.
Because they are highly concentrated volatile liquids and are not water
soluble, they can burn the internal tissue of the mouth and intestines
very easily when not properly administered. In many countries, essential
oils are taught as powerful medicine in medical schools and prescribed
for internal use by doctors who have had this training. As a relatively
new country, the USA is simply not
steeped in this tradition. However, we will see this in the future.

Where in the World?

Corsica..... is a
French island in the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its
wonderful terrain of beaches and pine-covered mountains, it is located
southeast of the southern coast of France and west of Italy. The mild
winter climate makes it ideal for citrus.
Our
precious essential oil of Orange (Citrus
aurantium) comes to us from Corsica where it is
naturally farmed without pesticides. The essential oil is cold pressed
which means the oil sacs in the peel are ruptured.
Orange
oil is known as the Natural Tranquilizer. Its sweet scent is soothing and
comforting and tends to make one smile. In addition to relieving
depression and anxiety, Orange oil is a good choice to help with
digestion, especially when combined with Peppermint. Combined with
Lavender, it encourages a good night's sleep.
Pure
therapeutic grade Orange oil is naturally antibacterial, offering
additional support to the immune system. What a gift the Orange tree is,
giving us fruit, juice, flowers, and three kinds of oils.

This Month's OLA™ Storyteller: More Good News!

When my
four-year old son was sent home from prekindergarten due to hypertension,
I was told that in order to return, he would have to be on medication.
After purchasing The Good Medicine Tin®, I learned that Orange could work
as a natural tranquilizer and also was a good children's oil. I had my
son smell the oil and he loved it. Since we could never get him to calm
down for bed at night, I made a palm blend with Jojoba and one drop of
Orange and gave him a back rub. It soothed his restlessness and put him
to sleep. During the day I put a drop of Orange oil on a cotton ball and
put it in his pocket. He went back to school this way. If I would forget
the Orange cotton ball in the morning, he would ask for it. This has
changed our whole family life, because he is now willing to go to bed,
knowing he will get his massage with the Orange oil blend. Thank you.

Be Gentle With Yourself

When we ask
people what they would like the oils to help them accomplish, it's not
unusual to hear the same answer. Everyone simply wants to "feel
better." And it is the very nature of essential oils and their
fragrant aromas to help us feel better.
The word "aroma" comes from a
Greek word meaning "sweet scents to the brain" and has long
been considered an important part of good health. Our olfactory (nose-
brain) system is wired so that aroma alone can serve as "sweet
scents to the brain." The olfactory nerves connect to the emotional
center of the brain, which is why aroma is a language of memory, emotion,
and feeling. This is why we can simply "feel better" by getting
a whiff of a pleasing aroma. Of course, it is paramount to use pure
essential oils, rather than synthetic fragrances.
Neuroscientist Dr. Candace Pert has
proven that when we shift our emotional state, our brain chemistry shifts
accordingly. These brain messengers feed cells throughout the body, and
thus shift our physical state.
Nature gives us her most precious liquid
to help us feel better. The two main attributes of true Aromatherapy are
(1) the instant ability to relieve stress, and (2) the ability to support
the immune system. Two top essential oils for relieving emotional and
physical stress are Lavender and Orange. Our #3 OLA™ Custom Blend of
Lavender, Orange, and Peppermint often makes people "feel
happy" and "smile." Accept this gift from Nature and
experience the feelings. Be gentle with yourself...life is precious.
