What Can I Do?
|

For relief from
stomach discomfort, there are several Peppermint oil options:
Lavender-Peppermint Mist, Pure Peppermint Essential Oil, Organic Golden
Jojoba Base Oil, OLA™ Custom Blend #3 (Lavender, Peppermint, Orange), and
the Good Medicine Tin®.
1. Inhalation:
Breathe deeply from the bottle of pure Peppermint, put 1-2 drops on a
cotton ball to keep with you, or use a room diffuser. Call us about our
Spa Scenter Room Diffuser. It is our favorite.
2.
Touch With Oils® and Belly Rubs: Pour Organic Golden Jojoba in your palm
and add 1 drop of pure Peppermint. Apply to nose. Rub palms together, cup
hands over nose and breathe deeply. Rub temples and back of neck. Lie
down and do a slow, gentle, belly rub in large circles going clockwise
(right, up, left, and down). Stay with this for 10 to 15 minutes if
necessary.
3.
Bath: Doctors of Aromatherapy in Europe prescribe baths with essential
oils, for medicinal reasons. For stomach flu and fever: make the bath
water up and get in. Make the "palm blend" and do the massage
descibed in #2. Stay here for 20 minutes. Place a wet washcloth over your
chest and belly.

Q&A: We're glad you asked!

Can I take
Peppermint oil internally with an upset stomach?
We do
not endorse taking essential oils internally without doctor's advice, due
to their potency. Having said this, if someone is sick to their stomach,
and the above methods are not enough, we recommend a Peppermint tea.
This
Peppermint tea is too strong to use daily, in place of Peppermint tea
bags. It has been said that essential oils can be 70 times stronger than
the herb.
Add one
drop of pure Peppermint oil to at least 1/2 teaspoon of honey. Stir into
one cup hot water. Inhale the steam until the tea is cool enough to
drink. This may be done 3 times a day for an upset stomach, if
appropriate.

Where in the World?
|
|

|
|
Big Sky Montana.
Major
sources for Peppermint oil are the United States, England, France, and
Italy. The better quality is found in their colder areas. Our source at
Oil Lady Aromatherapy® is a private farm in the pristine land of Montana.
The plants are cut once a year and grown without chemicals.
Peppermint
oil is steam distilled from the leaves. Its main chemical constituent is
menthol, which contains many medicinal properties. It is adaptogenic
because of the warming and cooling effect of menthol.
Due to
the burning effect of menthol and other contituents like limonine,
Peppermint should not be used directly on the skin. Always combine it
with a base oil for skin application.

Smelling
Peppermint will always remind me of my car trip on the mountainous,
winding roads of North Carolina. I waited until the last moment of motion
sickness before I asked the driver to pull over.
While
doing so, a friend in the car pulled out her Peppermint oil. As we got
out of the car, she put a drop in my hand, had me rub my hands together,
cup my nose and breathe deeply. As I was doing this, she poured Jojoba in
her hand and added a drop of Peppermint. She quickly rubbed this into my
stomach. After deep breathing and walking around... I had been spared the
embarassment of loosing my breakfast.
Now I
know about Peppermint oil, and I am glad.

Soothe The Stomach
|
|

|
|
We have all had
times when our stomach is out of balance. Our digestive system is easily
affected by stress, too much food, wrong combinations or bad food, travel,
headaches, colds, flu, and other variables in life. For this reason, it
is a good idea to have pure Peppermint (Mentha piperita) oil for the
home, office, and traveling.
Peppermint, due to its high content of
menthol, has profound properties that assist us with health concerns. Dr.
Jean Valnet (French M.D.) credits Peppermint oil as a "stomachic and
antispasmodic." This is why Peppermint is recognized as a digestive
aid and gastric tonic for indigestion, nausea, and flatulence. Once
Peppermint has come to your rescue and you have experienced relief and
comfort, it will be a friend and travel companion forever.
For a pleasant digestive aid, instead of
eating a peppermint candy after a meal, try our little 4-ml. bottle of
pure Peppermint oil. Simply breath deeply as often as you like. When the
queasy feeling of stress or motion sickness is present, this simple
technique is also appropriate.
See "What Can I Do?" for
various ways to incorporate Peppermint into your life.
Remember...whenever you are using Peppermint for any of these reasons,
you are also getting the natural benefits of its antiseptic qualities.
This is a welcome side effect that supports your immune system and can be
part of a "strengthen your health program". I place Peppermint in
the top three most useful essential oils, and it is an integral part of
our Good Medicine Tin®.
